Where Did This Grand Junction Colorado Building Go

Is it me, or is this happening more and more frequently in Grand Junction? You're driving down the street, minding your own business, when you suddenly realize a building that was there not four hours ago is suddenly gone. This is turning into a frequent occurrence around here.

Mesa Supply Building at 601 Pitkin in Grand Junction Colorado

If you ever looked at the north face of the building, you probably noticed a sign which read "Mesa Supply 1907." This building was a featured property on the Grand Junction Economic Partnership website. The post reads:

The space itself is a historic work of art. The building has majestic accents throughout with towering brick arches on both sides of the building which still have the original metal rollup doors in each arch. The building has its original wood floors on what was once the unloading porches. These porches have been enclosed but the beauty is still present on the inside.

According to Loopnet, this building at 601 Pitkin was constructed in 1907. The ceilings were 18 feet in height. The "rentable building area" measured 19,495 square feet. Loopnet describes it as "a masterpiece needing to be restored."

The Last Time I Was In This Building

I've lived in Grand Junction 51, almost 52 years, and really don't recall much about this building. Oddly, I was born about eight blocks from this location, and yet somehow never knew much about it. Looking back, I seem to recall going into this building decades ago to buy used books.

I had absolutely no idea the building had such a large basement. Not only that, but who would have guessed the property measured a whopping 19,495 square feet?

All of the realty websites agree - this building was extraordinary. All of the realty sites praise the building's solid wood floors, brick archways, and 18-foot ceilings. One can't help but think this property could have been converted into something amazing.
