Mesa County Valley School District 51 is currently discussing changing school boundaries for a total of eight different schools in the county. The changes could affect five elementary schools, one middle school, and two high schools in the Grand Valley.

The boundary changes continue to be discussed, according to Mesa County Valley School District 51's Facebook, which states that the board will most likely vote on school boundary changes on February 16th.

Here are the proposed school boundary changes that District 51 is currently discussing, which will affect Appleton, Broadway, Pomona, Tope, and Wingate elementary schools, Fruita 8-9, and Fruita Monument, and Grand Junction high schools.

High School

#1 - Scenic/Broadway Elementary School Boundary: Change to Grand Junction High School

The first proposed school boundary change for high schools, according to District 51 is moving neighborhoods in the Scenic and Broadway elementary school attendance areas from Fruta Monument High School to Grand Junction High School

#2 - Doing the Above + Adding More to Grand Junction High School

According to District 51, the second proposed school boundary change is doing the above and moving part of the Wingate Elementary School attendance area from Fruita Monument High to Grand Junction High School.

#3 - Doing Either #1 or #2 + Adding More to Grand Junction High School

The third proposed school boundary change, according to District 51, is doing either #1 or #2 and moving a triangle bordered by Highway 6 & 50, 25 Road, and either I-70 or G Road from Fruita Monument High School's school boundary into Grand Junction High School's.

Middle School

#1 - Moving Part of Fruita Middle School's Boundary into West Middle School's

According to District 51, the proposed school boundary change for middle school is moving a triangle bordered by Highway 6 & 50 and either I-70 or G Road from Fruita Middle School's school boundary into West Middle School's.

Elementary School

#1 - Moving Appleton into Pomona Elementary + Moving Pomona into Tope Elementary

The first of two proposed school boundary changes for elementary schools in Mesa County states, according to D51, is moving Appleton Elementary School neighborhoods south of G Road, northeast of the Colorado River, and west of 25 Road into Pomona Elementary School's attendance area. Then moving Pomona Elementary School boundaries bordered by G Road, I-70 26, and 27 Roads into Tope Elementary school boundaries.

#2 - Moving Wingate Elementary's School Boundary into Broadway Elementary's

According to Mesa County Valley School District 51, the second proposal for school boundary changes for elementary schools is moving one neighborhood from Wingate Elementary School's attendance area into Broadway Elementary School's.
