Inside the Colorado Apartment Complex So Dangerous Tenants Were Ordered to Evacuate
Managing a rental property can be a demanding task, and it’s even more of a chore when multiple units are involved.

Unfortunately, sometimes landlords get in over their heads and the dwellings that they’re supposed to be managing are neglected which can impact the lives of everyone involved.
This was the case just over a year ago for an apartment complex in Colorado, earning it the distinction of being one of the worst of its kind in the state in recent memory.
Colorado Apartment Complex Seriously Neglected
The apartment complex in question was the William Penn Apartments, which were located at 1644 North Pennsylvania Street in Aurora, Colorado.
The complex, which was owned by a company called CBZ Management, a company that also operates another apartment complex in the Denver suburb that was shut down close to the same time, was shut down in January 2025 due to extraordinary neglect.
The tenants of the 35-unit complex were forced to evacuate by the Denver Department of Public Health and Environment because of what the department called an “imminent hazard to public or environmental health.”
At the time of the evacuation, it was reported that tenants didn’t have heat, hot water, and natural gas. In addition, it was reported that the fire alarm system wasn’t functioning properly at the time.
It was also reported that there were frequently piles of trash in the alleyway behind the apartment complex that failed to be picked up, but rather just stacked up, as well as broken windows, adding to the claims of obvious neglect.
As of now, it appears that the apartment complex remains shut down.
