Colorado Teen Kills Man Over Xbox, Sentenced
A 16-year-old boy from Brighton, Colorado has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for shooting and killing a man over an Xbox gaming system.
The man that lost his life, 32-year-old Jacob Michael Clymer had posted the gaming system on Facebook Marketplace for sale, to which the killer, Brigham Yahir Mendez, responded and set up a time to meet up and purchase it.
However, things went south upon the pair meeting. Originally, Clymer had asked for $250, to which Mendez replied that he could only afford to pay $245. It's unclear if the price was the final factor in Mendez's decision to react violently, but what happened next would take what would have been a simple transaction into a tragic situation.
The story goes that Mendez left briefly, and when he returned he shot Clymer numerous times, ending his life.
In this day and age, we meet strangers all of the time because of technology. There are apps like Uber and Lyft, where you literally hop into a stranger's car and have them drive you somewhere. It's basically a new form of hitchhiking, where either party could pose a threat, although because it's contained in an app with all of both parties' information attached, it is safer than hitchhiking.
There are apps that allow you to have someone go grocery shopping and deliver it to your house, apps that allow you to order from your favorite restaurant and have it delivered, and don't even get me started on the plethora of questionable dating apps out there.
However, this situation was merely a tragic story of what seemed to be a troubled young kid and a poor, unsuspecting stranger that met up with the wrong guy. Although Mendez murdered Clymer in cold blood over something so senseless, he'll be released at the age of 46.
