A Colorado man who sexually assaulted a 5-year-old girl has been sentenced to 80 years in federal prison.

The man, 31-year-old Erik McDaugale, filmed himself sexually assaulting the 5-year-old girl and then proceeded to share the footage with other acquaintances that were also involved in exploiting children in sexual manners until he was caught.

Prior to his arrest, McDaugale lived in the basement of an acquaintance's house in Aurora, Colorado, where these horrific crimes allegedly took place.

Last year, in the spring of 2019, the Colorado Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force were tipped off by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children that McDaugale was sharing pornographic videos and images of children online. McDaugale had also been named as a sex offender in prior years but failed to register, which is a crime in itself.

Deputy District Attorney James Bornhoft had this to say about the incident:

This is conduct of the most appalling and egregious nature. This defendant repeatedly sexually abused a 5-year-old girl, grooming her for this purpose. He recorded this sexual abuse so he could relive it again and again and again – and he shared this with others who shared his perversion to sexually abuse children. There is no sentence harsh enough for any of these actions in singularity, much less for all of these actions taken together. All I can say is this plea agreement will make sure that this defendant doesn’t step foot in society again.

Luckily, it appears that McDaugale will be serving the rest of his life in prison and will never be able to hurt another child again.
