Colorado Man Arrested For Shooting at Police
A Colorado man was arrested Wednesday night after allegedly firing shots at police officers.
The man, 21-year-old Michael Hughes, was sitting in a black truck Wednesday night outside of MOD Pizza near Walmart in Fountain, Colorado when he allegedly opened fire, unprovoked, at a group of police officers standing outside the restaurant in the parking lot.
Fortunately, none of the three police officers were injured. The incident began near Venetucci Boulevard in Fountain when the group of police heard gunshots. A spokesperson from the police department had this to say about the incident:
Officers noticed a black truck slowly driving on Venetucci Boulevard headed towards South Academy Boulevard. As the truck passed by the parking lot of MOD Pizza, additional shots were fired in the direction of where the officers were standing. Thanks to video footage obtained from businesses in the 4400 block of Venetucci Boulevard, the truck and the occupants, were positively identified as being involved in the shots-fired incident.
Following the incident, police arrived en masse to the scene but Hughes and his accomplices had since left.
The man and other occupants in the vehicle then drove to the Fort Carson Army Base but were denied entry by military police, who were notified of the incident and given a description of the truck.
Hughes was arrested shortly thereafter and charged with three counts of felony first-degree assault on a peace officer, and the other occupants of the truck are likely going to be charged with similar charges as well.
