While it would seem that Colorado is mostly known for artists like Big Head Todd and the Monsters, OneRepublic, and The Fray, the city of Denver is widely known in the EDM community as the "Bass Capital" of the United States.
Denver Colorado is Known as the Bass Capital of the United States
The title of "Bass Capital of the United States" has nothing to do with fishing, bass drums, or even bass guitar. In fact, Denver was given this moniker because of its massive dubstep scene.
In case you're not familiar with it, dubstep is a subgenre of electronic dance music that uses a ton of bass frequencies and is, quite frankly, a little more out there than many of the subgenres that preceded it.

Much of the thriving dubstep scene that Denver is home to can be attributed to a woman by the name of Nicole Cacciavillano. A native of Philadelphia, Cacciavillano relocated to Denver in 2004 and almost immediately began putting together EDM shows.
After a handful of years and a lot of hard work, Cacciavillano began putting together shows at Red Rocks Amphitheatre where, much to the chagrin of nearby residents, dubstep has become incredibly popular.
In addition to being a huge force in bringing dubstep to Colorado in such a big way, Cacciavillano also owns and operates The Black Box, a Denver nightclub that specifically caters to electronic music fans.
