It’s times like this when it definitely helps being the host team for a sports tournament.

For the first time since 2011, Colorado Mesa University’s baseball team has won the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) tournament championship. The Mavericks pulled off the tournament championship on their home turf at Suplizio Field.

The Mavericks defeated Colorado State-Pueblo 4-2 in Saturday’s championship game. The win marked the second time CMU defeated CSU-Pueblo in as many days in the double-elimination tournament.

Also, five of CMU’s players made the All-Tournament Team. Those players are Austin Kaiser (who was also the tournament MVP), Nate Robertson, Matt Delay, Austin Wallingford, and Kyle Davis.

Colorado Mesa will find out Sunday on whether the team will host the NCAA South Central Regional Tournament, which begins May 15.
