The CMU Mavericks begin the new year on the road, as they get into the meat of their 2013-2014 schedule. It's been a good start for both the men's and the women's team.

The Maverick women are off to an 8-0 start and head into the weekend tied with CSU-Pueblo atop the RMAC standings at 6-0. The Mavericks face Colorado Christian on Friday and Colorado School of Mines on Saturday. Both teams are 2-3 in conference play, but Colorado Christian is the team that handed the Mavericks their first loss a season ago, and were the only team in the conference to beat the Mavericks.

The Mavericks are led by senior Sharaya Selsor, of Glenwood Springs, who is averaging just  under 27 points(2nd in the nation) and 5.2 rebounds per game. Selsor has already been named the RMAC Player of the Week four times.

The Maverick men are off to a 7-3 start after losing their first two games of the year. The Mavs boast a 5-1 conference record as they begin the new year. Sophomore Ryan Stephan has stepped up big for first year head coach Andy Shantz, averaging 16 points and 6 rebounds per game and making 63% of his shots.

The Mavericks next home games will be January 9th and 10th against CSU Pueblo and UC Colorado Springs.
