Following a "lawn makeover" and a wet spring, the Large Active Dog Area at Grand Junction's Canyon View Dog Park is set to re-open.

Last year, the City of Grand Junction Parks and Recreation Department opted to close this section of the park. The lawn, what little there was, had taken a beating. The staff at the park closed the area in late September. As you can see in the photo above, the lawn had seen some better days.

In October of last year, the area's soil was amended and re-seeded. The new seed, combined with months of inactivity, not to mention ample rainfall this spring, has resulted in a nice, new lawn.

The Large Active Dog Area is set to open to the public on Wednesday, June 1, 2016.

To find the park, just head down 24 Road to G Road. Continue down 24 Road and turn right into Canyon View just before the I-70 overpass.

If you haven't used this area before, you should give it a look. This section of the park is fenced and features a large area complete with seasonal water. Dogs love the opportunity to get off leash, and you'll enjoy the chance to take a break while they play.
