Just in time for the holiday Mount Evans Road is open.

Mount Evans is one of Colorado's famous "14ers" it's one that you can drive across too. One of the benefits of this year's drier winter season is the opening of some of Colorado's most famous highways. Every year, it's CDOT's goal to have the Mount Evans Road open in time for the unofficial start of summer but as I mentioned in the post a couple days about Trail Ridge Road in the Rocky Mountain National Park, it's Mother Nature that has the final say on what roads open when.

The last of the graders and snowplows finished up the main road yesterday. It took crews about two weeks to remove all the snow from the Mount Evans Road. In the next couple days, they'll finish up and have the road open in time for Memorial Day weekend.

The road is an adventure in any vehicle but if you own a motorcycle, now that's the way to experience Mount Evans Road in all its glory! Why not grab a couple friends and make that part of your holiday weekend? I can't think of a better way to start off summer!

It's a bonus to have the road open this weekend. So you know, last year crews didn’t get Mount Evans Road cleared until June 8th. If you can't make it this weekend plan for a trip sometime soon. The road closes in early September.
