See The Years Pass At the Corner of This Grand Junction Intersection

Grand Junction is full of rich history that you can discover at just about any corner. This is the tale of an intriguing yellow house that stood the test of time for almost one hundred years. Today it is gone, but its memory remains alive for many residents.

29 Road House Had Been Around For Decades

The photo above is from August of 2008. At the time, the property was being used as a building for car sales. ForSaleByOwner lists the property as being built in 1930, meaning that it was approximately 78 years old.

Right next door is a Sinclair gas station. Of course, we all know that gas prices have risen dramatically over the past few years, but do you remember the price of gas back then?

This photo, also from August 2008 shows that Grand Junction residents were paying $2.87 for a gallon of gas. That's a lot cheaper than today's prices.

July 2012 at 29 Road and North Ave

By July 2012 we do not see much change at the eye-catching yellow property, but next door we definitely do.

The store appears to have changed ownership, although gas still appears to be provided by Sinclair and prices have risen to a whopping $3.44 a gallon.

September 2019 at 29 Road and North Ave

Fast forward to 2019 and we see the auto sales business has long since said goodbye to the yellow house. Two lone cars remain on the lot and the property is truly showing its age with broken windows, much-needed roofing repairs, and quickly flaking paint.

Next door at the gas station it appears that the store has reverted back to Stinker and that gas has dropped to $2.53 a gallon, even cheaper than what it was in 2008.

May 2021 at 29 Road and North Ave

By May 2021 we can see that the yellow house has fallen into complete disrepair. The building has several broken windows and the last two cars from the lot have been removed.

Things at the Sinclair remain very similar, however, gas appears to have risen to $3.13 a gallon. The price is still cheaper than July of 2012, but we know that won't last for long.

July 2022 at 29 Road and North Ave

If you drive past today you'll find that the yellow house has been demolished. I always thought that someone would purchase the property and restore it, but things just didn't work out that way.

The Sinclair is currently closed as crews work to build a bigger and better gas station and it appears that the space, where the yellow house used to sit, will be included in the expansion.

As of July 28, 2022 gas prices sit at about $4.59 a gallon. Shocking as it may be, this is actually down from its peak of $4.99, a price Grand Junction residents probably never expected to see.
