The legendary Sharon Mitchell was born on January 18, 1956 and was raised Catholic by her adopted parents. She went from a dominatrix on screen to a doctor in real life. Sharon was married by 17 and had a short Off-Broadway career, until she became an adult actress in the 1970's.

This 'golden goddess' was only one of 25 women featured in the book Golden Goddesses: 25 Legendary Women of Classic Erotic Cinema, 1968-1985. Sharon also claims her place in adult film history with awards in the AVN Awards Hall of Fame, Legends of Erotica and XRCO Hall of Fame.

She In her career ended in 2003, sparked by a stalker attack in 1996. Sharon Mitchell acted in over 200 movies, produced 38 and also was in underground bondage magazines. Later in her career she transitioned into the role of dominatrix in fetish films.

After she partially retired from the industry she went to the Institute for the Advanced Study of Human Sexuality for her Ph.D. In 1998 she began the Adult Industry Medical Health Care Foundation. A lawsuit and bankruptcy ended her organization to test adult actors in actresses for STD's in 2011.

The foundation was brought down due to privacy issues with their massive database and the porn 'whistleblower website', Porn Wikileaks. Production was shut down at several production companies when the foundation announced that an anonymous person had tested positive for HIV.
