A 94-year-old man was struck and killed today in front of Mt. Garfield Middle School.

The man was trying to cross the street when he was hit by the school bus and then knocked into the other lane where he was struck the second time by an oncoming car. The bus was traveling in the eastbound lane when it hit the man. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. There were students on the bus but none were injured.

The Mesa County Coroner identified the man as 94-year-old George Harlan of Clifton. Colorado State Police confirm he was indeed crossing the street. Apparently, he was walking across attempting to collect his morning newspaper when he was hit by the bus.

The Colorado State Police are continuing to investigate the accident. There were no further details available at the time of this writing.
