A legendary record store that has supplied Colorado with great music, in the form of albums, in-store performances, and other means, has just been sold to a worthy new owner.

Colorado's Twist & Shout

The iconic music shop is known as Twist and Shout which has served as a mecca for music enthusiasts on Colorado's Front Range for over three decades.

Twist and Shout was first opened in 1988 by Paul and Jill Epstein in Boulder, Colorado on the popular outdoor mall of Pearl Street. It later moved to its current location at 2508 E. Colfax Avenue in Denver.

Colorado's Twist and Shout's New Owner

Despite the potential for a bleak future with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, Twist and Shout has remained significant and even had an extremely lucrative 2019. However, it was because of this success that long-time owners Paul and Jill Epstein decided that it was a safe and practical time to retire.

Upon deciding to retire, the Epsteins didn't seek out any deep-pocketed investors to buy the store, but rather looked no further than their own staff, selling the business to long-time manager of Twist and Shout Patrick Brown.

What's Next For Colorado's Twist and Shout?

The decision to sell the record store to Brown was partially inspired by Brown's passion for not only music but the store itself. He was around for many years managing the store overseeing legendary in-store performances by such big-name Colorado artists as The Fray, Nathaniel Rateliff, Flobots, and the String Cheese Incident. Twist and Shout has also hosted national touring artists such as Elvis Costello, Ween, Silversun Pickups, Mumford & Sons, and The Grateful Dead's Phil Lesh.

What's Next For the Epsteins?

After passing the torch to its new owner, former Twist and Shout owners the Epsteins plan to enjoy their retirement by filling their time with things like gardening, traveling, yoga, and spending time with their grandkids.
