This local effort is tied in with the American Cancer Society. McAlister’s Deli in Grand Junction is collaborating with St. Mary’s Hospital by providing free cold turkey sandwiches to people who commit to quit tobacco use “cold turkey.”

But smokers don’t really need to quit ‘cold turkey’ because starting December 1, St. Mary’s will offer tobacco cessation services that include a physician consultation and assessment,” says Debra Hesse, coordinator of St. Mary’s Cancer Survivorship Program. Paula Marchionda, MD, trained in preventive medicine and cancer survivorship care, will provide one-on-one counseling to tobacco users. Participants may also receive support from the program’s pharmacist and social worker.

The FREE cold turkey sandwiches will be available from 4pm – 7pm.

McAlister’s Deli is located at 480 West Park Drive in Grand Junction.
