The Colorado Mesa University Mavericks lost to Chadron State 41-30 at Stocker Stadium Saturday afternoon in the conference opener for both teams.

The Mavericks scored on a 69 yard pass from freshman quarterback Deke Cisco to Austin Rodriguez, and on a 75 yard interception return by Mike Brady. The Mavericks took their first lead of the game with 11:15 to play when Alex Zemezonak booted a 17 yard field goal, lifting CMU to a 30-28. The Eagles then scored on pass plays of 37 and 54 yards from John McLain to Nathan Ross to put the game away.

Cisco hopped off the field in the 4th quarter with an ankle injury, and did not return. The extent of the injury was not immediately known.

The Mavericks drop to 0-3 on the season, 0-1 in RMAC play and will travel to Spearfish, South Dakota next Saturday to face Black Hills State.
