Lately there have been a couple of stories in the news about Halloween displays being too scary for kids. I’m not sure if we are babying our kids too much or if technology has finally caught up with our macabre sense of humor, but maybe we should chill-out a little it is Halloween.

Halloween once was a holiday for kids; they would dress up and run around the neighborhood to gather up sweet treats. Today you hardly see any kids out trick-or-treating. I had a big bowl of candy ready last year and saw about five kids and they live across the street.

We have to face the facts that Halloween is not for kids anymore. Halloween has become a huge multi-million dollar business. Between the bars, costume shops and make-up experts you can spend a ton on your costume each year. So you can go to the big Halloween party and maybe win a prize. The young adults just took the holiday and made it theirs.

Young adults have also taken to putting up big displays in their yards and some of them are pretty cool. I know most people think dead bodies in the driveway seems a bit much, but a Jack-O-Lantern, Witch or ghost just isn’t that scary any more.

I find it funny that people are calling 911 about these displays. I can’t see how anyone would see one and go that must be real call 911. I know it seems weird but maybe we should just talk to our kids and explain that it isn’t real, just like Santa Claus or the Easter Bunny.
