Over the weekend, it was reported by Yahoo News that the President was going to rename Mt. McKinley in Alaska to Denali. That prompted me to research why Mt. Garfield is called what it is. Since settlers began locating here in 1882, one year after President Garfield was assassinated, it's no surprise that's how it got the name. But, what if we could change it?

I mean no offense to those who treasure the memory of President Garfield, but if you could rename the signature peak of the Bookcliffs, what name would you choose?

It's probably the Bronco fan in me talking, but "Elway" sounds pretty good! Kidding, very much kidding. Seriously? Any brilliant pioneers of this area you would like to see honored? If so, please comment and share!
