Watson Island Disc Golf Course Offers Fun + Beautiful Views
Spring is here and we are getting more and more opportunities to enjoy the great Western Colorado outdoors. Have you played Grand Junction's newest course?
Of course, when we say "course" golf immediately comes to mind, but that's not really what we are talking about. We are talking about the Watson Island Disc Golf Course, located at the Western Colorado Botanical Gardens at the end of 7th Street on the Riverside Parkway.
Disc Golf has been in existence for more than 40 years and is growing in popularity. According to the Pro Disc Golf Association, some 500,000 people play disc golf on a regular basis on 1,600 courses across the country.
New to that list is Grand Junction's Watson Island 18 hole course at Las Colonias Park. It's one of five listed disc golf courses in the Grand Valley. The Watson Island course sets next to the river and is a beautiful setting during the summer.
For those not familiar at all with the sport, it might help you understand it better if we called it frisbee golf, which is essentially what it is. Apologies to disc golf aficionados. You "tee off" with the goal of getting your frisbee or disc into a mounted basket which serves as the "hole".
Check out the photo gallery to see the Watson Island 18 hole Disc Golf Course in Grand Junction. It may leave you wanting to invest in a set of discs and give this sport a try. A set of starter discs will run you between $50 and $100, a lot cheaper than a set of golf clubs.
