We all have had to be flexible and adapt throughout this very unusual year we are having in 2020 with the COVID-19 pandemic and we are continuing to see more things change all around us. In recent months we have seen plexiglass barriers put up in most grocery stores in hopes that it reduces the risk of spreading COVID-19. And now we're starting to see those same barriers inside of ride-sharing vehicles like Uber and Lyft.

This morning I received a text message from my brother who travels for work quite often and is on a business trip right now down in Florida. As he was using his Uber app to get a ride into the office he noticed something different as soon as he opened the door to get in the vehicle. There was a plexiglass barrier inside of the vehicle separating the driver from passengers and had a dryer vent type hose that was used for communicating.

It was obvious that this uber driver spent lots of time and money putting together these safety measures for his own vehicle. Including using lots of duct tape and push pins to ensure that the barrier was secure. Although I'm not sure how safe it would be if the driver were to get into an accident.

Uber and Lyft have already released information to drivers on how to keep passengers and themselves safe as they continue to drive for the ride-sharing apps. Which include following these recommendations:

  • If you feel sick stay home and do not pick up passengers.
  • Wash your hands frequently.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze.
  • Clean and disinfect your vehicle.
