Ten years after Todd Bertuzzi sucker punched Steve Moore the lawsuit between the two has finally been settled. The punch on March 8th 2004 left Moore with a concussion and fractured vertebrae that ended the rookies NHL career.

The Vancouver Sun reported that the multimillion-dollar suit was set to go to trial in September but that a settlement was reached this week. Steve Moore filed the civil case against Bertuzzi back in 2006 but legal wrangling has delayed it several times.

Bertuzzi was suspended for the rest of the season and the playoffs that year and the Vancouver Canucks were fined $250,000 for the incident. Bertuzzi also got a year of probation and community service for the assault case because of the punch.

While Steve Moore never played in the NHL again Bertuzzi served his suspension and returned to his career. He played last season in Detroit and will probably play this season as soon as a team signs him.

It’s no secret that I’m a big hockey fan and I think tough physical play and fights have a place in the game but what Bertuzzi did was way out of line.
