Colorado Tourism Office Telling Tourists to Stay Away This Summer
Anyone with a 'Colorado Native' bumper sticker on their car will be happy to hear this news.
The Colorado Tourism Office (CTO) is urging out-of-state tourists to avoid visiting Colorado this summer due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to Fox 31 News, CTO is even launching a four-phase campaign called 'Let's CO!' that is designed deter tourists from Colorado.
However, the goal of the campaign is not to discourage tourists from visiting our state permanently, as Colorado's tourism industry has been struggling amidst the pandemic.
Rather, the campaign is intended to get tourists more excited about visiting Colorado than ever before...just not until it is safe to do so.
The first phase, titled 'Waiting to CO!,' is already in effect, and shows footage of people enjoying typical Colorado activities with at-home modifications.
For example, one child is seen 'kayaking' down the stairs, while another man is shown scaling the outer wall of his home.
The public is invited to participate in the campaign.
Simply post a photo or video of yourself performing a pretend Colorado activity to social media with #WaitingToCO and you might be featured on CTO's website.
The next phase of the campaign is titled 'Ready to CO!' It will focus on encouraging Colorado residents to become tourists in their own state by exploring local attractions.
There is no word yet on when phases two through four will launch, as CTO is waiting on guidance from public health officials before making any decisions.
So in the meantime, stay home, and get your selfie on.
