Tax scams

As we head down the homestretch of the tax season, it's a prime time for scammers to prey on the unsuspecting.

Thanks to some cautious and smart residents, the Montrose Police Department is aware of an IRS scam that in one significant way seems to link back to the police department.

Scammers are using some frightening new tricks. An elderly Grand Junction woman was offered a taxi ride so she could purchase a money order to send to them.

Be careful. Tax season is scam season.
