Developer Frogwares and publisher Focus Home Interactive have announced a release date for their upcoming detective sim, Sherlock Holmes: Crimes and Punishments, and unveiled a brief trailer that shows off the game’s new look.

Sherlock Holmes: Crimes and Punishments is the eighth title in Frogwares’ Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, and the first to utilize the Epic Unreal 3 Engine, resulting in the best-looking Sherlock game to date. The switch to Unreal 3 will also allow for new investigative techniques, such as determining the backstory and motives of an interviewee by observation and reconstructing crime scenes by studying the clues. Players will be tasked with helping the legendary detective solve six unique cases in an open world version of 19th century London by using their wits and combined with Sherlock's inimitable skills.

The brief video gives a look at the game’s visuals without spoiling any content. Frogwares and Focus have done an amazing job of creating an eerily beautiful rendition of London, filled with moody atmospheric effects, realistically textures and animated citizens. Characters’ faces are distinct and expressive, making the thought of interrogating them and watching for facial cues an inviting one.

Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments will hit PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC on September 30 in all regions.
