Last year, Red Rocks Amphitheatre, which has a capacity just over 9,500, hosted only a few in-person events — with a capacity of 175 people.

But Colorado's COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations have been in steady decline since the beginning of the year, and over one million vaccinations have rolled out. With that, the outdoor venue is requesting a variance from the state to be able to hold events at 2,500 people, 9NEWS reported.

Via 9NEWS:

Brian Kitts, a spokesperson for the venue, told The Know that 'the goal is to work up to hosting about 80 percent of a normal crowd at Red Rocks,' hopefully by the end of the  summer or by the fall.

Red Rocks tweeted last week that it hopes to celebrate its 80th birthday by kicking off a concert season in April. While 2,500 is still a small crowd for Colorado's iconic amphitheater, it's certainly less sparse than 175.

Right now, Red Rocks does have a 2021 schedule on its website, but it's still unknown whether these shows will happen and a with what restrictions. You can see the Red Rocks calendar, below.
