The Federal Land and Recreation Enhancement funds are allowing some work to get done.

As the record-setting government shutdown continues Colorado's National Parks remain open but access and services are limited. A small crew went to work at Rocky Mountain National Park over the weekend removing snow from roadways, cleaning restrooms, and removing trash that had accumulated since the shutdown.

Snowplow crews cleared portions of US highway 36 past the Beaver Meadows Visitor Center and US highway 34 just past the Fall River park entrance. As of Monday, both highways were reopened to up Deer Ridge Junction. Bear Lake Road was anticipated to be cleared and reopened sometime yesterday (Tuesday).

Entrance fees aren't being collected, but entrance stations did have personnel on-site providing safety information and recommendations to visitors. If you are planning a visit, remember most the parks facilities remain closed including the Beaver Meadows and Kawuneeche Visitor Centers.
