One-Armed Colorado Girl Shoots For 2020 Paralympics in Tokyo
I love stories about people who don't let their disabilities stop them from doing great things.
Sophia Bultema was 5 years old when she was adopted from an orphanage by an American family in Colorado Spring after coming to the United States from China. Sophia was different than the other kids, missing a big part of her left arm.
When she was 10, her grandpa gave her a purple rifle. She liked it a lot and began trap shooting, but, she said she wasn't a very good shot. Through coaching and practice, Sophia developed her skill as a shooter hoping to compete at the 2020 Paralympics in Tokyo.
There are a total of 22 sports in the Tokyo games including rowing, swimming, football, sitting volleyball, wheelchair fencing, wheelchair rugby, powerlifting, and shooting.
I tried trapshooting a few times in my life, and it's not easy. I was terrible at it, even without any disability.
Sophia has not let her disability stop her from doing something she loves and doing it extremely well. When you listen to her story, you just can't help but root for her and hope for the very best for her in her dream to compete at the Tokyo games. She is an inspiration.
