U.S. Space Command Moving From Colorado to Alabama

The U.S. Space Command will no longer be in Colorado. The U.S. Space Command is moving from Colorado Springs, Colorado to Huntsville, Alabama.

Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado Springs has been the home of the U.S. Space Command for over 18 years. According to Fox 21, the U.S. Space Command was based in Colorado Springs from 1985 to 2002. When it was relaunched in 2019, Peterson Air Force Base was home to the U.S. Space Command again.

According to Fox 21, the space command was re-launched in 2019 to 'maintain our nation's competitive advantage in space.' Although Alabama Governor Kay Ivey is excited that Alabama will be the new home to the United States Space Command, Colorado Governor Jared Polis is not.

Jared Polis stated that reports found that Colorado Springs is the best location for the Space Command. Governor Polis stated that moving the U.S.. Space Command could have a negative economic impact.

U.S. Representative Doug Lamborn also voiced his disappointment in the decision to move the U.S. Space Command from Colorado to Alabama. Lamborn has sent a letter to President-elect Joe Biden asking to reverse the decision to move the Space Command, according to Fox 21.

Colorado Springs and Hunstillve Alamba were among the finalists for the new U.S. Space Command headquarters along with:

• Albuquerque, New Mexico
• Brevard County, Flordia,
• Bellevue, Nebraska
• San Antonio, Texas
