Are you in the mood for a short, pleasant walk along a paved trail? The next chance you get, set a course for Collbran, Colorado, and enjoy the tranquility of the Plateau Creek.

Sometimes you're just in the mood for a paved trail rather than tromping through the mud. This short trail offers quite a bit of eye candy, all without the hassles of a messy hike.

It's been over a year since I've visited this trail. My hiking companion passed away, and my walks have become fewer and fewer. With a light weekend ahead, perhaps it's time to head up the Grand Mesa.

The drive up the Mesa alone makes the trip worthwhile. Upon arriving in Collbran, find a convenient parking place and set out on the trail. It is located in the main part of town, right across the bridge.

The trail follows Plateau Creek for a short distance. Along the way, you'll enjoy plenty of magnificent scenery, and even a picnic table. This trail is wheelchair friendly and accessible to just about anyone. There is very little pitch to the trail, and no stairs.

Personally, I enjoy this walk in the very early hours. I especially enjoy it in the winter. The video above was shot on my way back to the trailhead, right around 8 in the morning.

Western Colorado is in store for another two days of snow. While it probably won't amount to much, a little snow really adds to the ambiance of trails such as this.

NOTE: When water runs high in the creek portions of the trail find themselves underwater. When this happens, access to the trail will be closed.

When you've completed the walk, pay a visit to the nearby creamery or downtown cafe, both only about a half a block from the start of the trail. I mentioned them on the air a while back, and they invited me to come by. I have yet to take them up on the offer.

Use this trail! It was funded by proceeds from the Colorado Lottery and is there for all to enjoy. Get up to Collbran before it gets too cold, and walk the trail along the Plateau Creek.
