Sad news out of Winter Park.

The skier who was reported missing at the popular resort on Saturday (January 18) has died from his injuries, according to 9News.

Francis Emilio, 25, was skiing with his friends when they parted ways near the Whistle Stop and Dormouse runs around 4:20 p.m.

His friends waited for him at the resort's base, but contacted authorities after he did not return for an unusual amount of time.

Winter Park Ski Patrol began an immediate search and found Emilio in the trees, with head and facial trauma injuries, around 7:35 p.m.

He was located across from White Rabbit Trail, which is an intermediate, or blue, run.

Ski patrol took Emilio down the mountain to the nearby Denver Health Clinic, where he was pronounced dead an hour later.

While an official cause of death has not been determined, Sky-Hi News reports that initial evidence shows Emilio lost control on White Rabbit before colliding with multiple trees.

Authorities have learned that Emilio, from Shrewsbury, Massachusetts, was not an experienced skier.

He was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
