Road construction in Rocky Mountain National Park has been going on since May, causing nightly road closures along portions of U.S Highway 36.

An official Rocky Mountain National Park press release states that road construction operations on a three-mile portion of U.S Highway 36 — just west of Bear Lake Road Junction to east of Deer Ridge Junction— will now expand into the day.

This extended portion of the project began on Wednesday.

According to Rocky Mountain National Park officials, there will be no access to this section of the road from 9 p.m to 7 a.m, Sunday nights through Friday mornings. There will be no road closures on this section beginning 5 p.m. on Fridays through 9 p.m. on Sundays.

When the road closures are lifted at 7 a.m every weekday morning, two-way traffic will be permitted through this area until noon. Beginning at noon Mondays through Thursdays, only one lane of traffic (westbound) will be open; eastbound traffic will not be permitted through this section from noon to 9 p.m. On Fridays, the closure will only be effective from noon to 5 p.m.

Throughout the duration of this closure, cars arriving east on Trail Ridge Road from Hidden Valley will be rerouted to the Fall River Entrance of the park. Those driving from the Fall River Entrance will not be able to drive through the construction zone to exit through the Beaver Meadows Entrance.

Those entering the park from the Beaver Meadows entrance will only be permitted to drive westbound through the section and should expect about 15 minute delays.
