A criminal mastermind in Georgia is finally behind bars. A lunch lady at the Fulton County School has been charged with stealing hundreds of dollars a day with her genius plan. Armed only with her a la carte food line she was able to steal over $2,000 a week for years.

Brenda Watts, the former cafeteria manager, had the perfect plan to milk money out of the school lunchroom and no one was the wiser. Not until a whistleblower let the cat out of the bag did anyone realize what was going on.

According to authorities, Watts set up an a la carte food line in the cafeteria that was cash only. Being the cafeteria manager she knew the menu, so she would cook up food that was a sure sell to the kids and just raked in the money.

This is a great plan if you think about. The school bought all of the food she was selling, so there was no overhead, the kids had to have lunch money so their parents never asked what was up with the a la carte wagon, and because there was no record of the sales the school didn’t know about the money or how much it was.

This is a killer plan expect for a couple of things that some how went unnoticed by anyone for years.

I don’t understand how the school board didn’t notice that the cafeteria wasn’t bringing in enough money to cover food cost each year. The complaint filed against Watts says she was making $500 a day. That might not seem like much but that is a lot of chicken tenders and French fries over the course of a year.

The other thing that seems a bit strange is Watts' home. According to the arrest warrants she lives in a 5,400 square-foot home in DeKalk County. For those who may not know, that is part of the city of Atlanta and a house of that size starts out at about $600,000. I don’t know how much a lunch lady makes a year but I don’t think it is enough to get a loan for that type of home.
