Live Music Returns to the Grand Junction Downtown Farmers Market
Many Grand Junction residents were bummed to hear there would be no live music at the 2020 Grand Junction Downtown Market on Main. Fortunately, it appears live music will in fact return.
Grand Junction area musicians received an email today (June 22, 2020) announcing this year's market will have openings for live ensembles.
Thank you for submitting your entertainment application to the 2020 Downtown Market on Main. Downtown GJ is happy to share that Mesa County Public Health has given us the approval to allow live entertainment at the Market!" - Rykel Menor
Most area musicians I've spoken to assumed the 2020 market would be a wash. Each year local musicians and bands must submit an application to the city in order to be considered when scheduling the entertainment lineup. According to the email sent out to applicants, the city will release this year's entertainment schedule in the next few days.
In the past, the Grand Junction Downtown Market on Main has been a favorite of local bands. The crowds are excellent, and the location provides an opportunity for musicians to reach audiences they might not find at their usual venues.
Whereas in years past the market would run three bands on any given night, the new arrangement will allow for only one live act per night. Musical acts will run Thursday evenings from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., with a 30-minute break in the middle.
For the time being, the Grand Junction Downtown Market on Main will operate at a new location. It will be temporarily located in the parking lot at the Grand Junction Convention Center at 1st Street and Colorado Avenue. The city hopes this change will be temporary, with the market hopefully returning to Main Street sometime in August.
The 2020 Grand Junction Downtown Market on Main kicks of on Thursday, July 9, and runs through September 24.
