Imagine, for a moment, the following scenario: Upon arrival to your home, you find an item taped to your mail box. You open the item, only to find that it’s an invitation to join the Ku Klux Klan.

What would your reaction be?

The U.S. Postal Inspector is currently investigating reports from several Colorado Springs-area residents who received invitations to join the Ku Klux Klan. The invitations were allegedly taped to mail boxes on Sunday.

El Paso County Sheriff’s Lt. Jeff Kramer confirmed to the Colorado Springs Gazette that his office received calls from alarmed residents on Sunday.

According to the Gazette’s news story, fliers in plastic zipper bags targeting minority racial groups were reported to have been found taped to numerous mail boxes in El Paso County’s Security-Widefield neighborhood. A phone number was also included, and when dialed, connected the caller to a recorded message advocating for white supremacist views.

According to 7News in Denver, one resident said she was concerned about what else might be in the bags. The resident reportedly contacted the FBI and asked that the bags be tested for ricin.

Kramer says deputies have contacted the postal inspector, who said this incident is a violation of federal law. The sheriff’s department will assist federal agents in the investigation.
