July Is a Deadly Month for Motorists in Six Western Colorado Counties
Six western Colorado counties account for over half of the fatal accidents in the state during the month of July.
The Colorado State Patrol reports residents in Delta, Gunnison, Hinsdale, Montrose, Ouray, and San Miguel counties account for 52% of the fatal accidents in Colorado during the month of July, making the region second for most fatalities in that month.
The percentage of fatalities is based on a 5-year period and includes 35 motorcycle crashes, of which 28 were fatal.
The Colorado State Patrol and law enforcement agencies from each of the six counties are teaming up to conduct a large scale operation to work towards saving lives.
That operation will identify and stop dangerous driving behaviors. Emphasis will be on impaired driving, speeding, distracted driving, and seat belt use.
