The years have continued to pass, but it seems Colorado police are no closer to solving the murder of 6-year-old JonBenet Ramsey.

According to a press release from the city of Boulder, the investigation is still open and it appears that Boulder Police are looking to DNA to help solve the case.

Colorado Is Haunted by JonBenet's Murder

As a Texas native, I had heard JonBenet's name, but unfortunately, I didn't know her story, that is, until I moved to Colorado.

Each year, Colorado natives are haunted by questions surrounding JonBenet's murder, especially around Christmas, the anniversary of her death.

JonBenet's Story

6-year-old pageant star JonBenet Ramsey was discovered missing by her parents John and Patsy Ramsey on December 26, 1996.

Patsy found a ransom note demanding $118,000 for the safe return of her daughter, and despite the note's warning, called 911 to report the kidnapping.

Boulder police arrived at the scene, but could not locate JonBenet or any signs of forced entry. Despite the home being an official crime scene, friends of the family were allowed inside the house and even helped Patsy clean up around the place.

Investigators left just 1 detective at the home, and it was during that time that John discovered JonBenet's body in the basement.

The 6-year-old's wrists were bound and duct tape covered her mouth. John carried his daughter upstairs, removed the tape, and placed her on the floor.

An autopsy later revealed that JonBenet's cause of death was strangulation.

Unanswered Questions Linger

Despite processing more than 1,500 pieces of evidence related to the murder of JonBenet Ramsey, Boulder police still have not concluded who may have killed the 6-year-old.

Police are hoping that the DNA collected from JonBenet holds the answer, and have analyzed approximately 1,000 DNA samples.
