The Denver Broncos open their preseason behind enemy lines in Seattle on Friday, August 14. I don't know what the 2015 Broncos are gonna bring to the table. There's only one thing I'm pretty certain about. And, that's the fact that no one - not even Peyton Manning - will be able to top what John Elway did back in the day.

I've only had the chance to go to one NFL game in my life and that was back in 1991. I lived in the Midwest and had the chance to see the Broncos play the Chiefs in Kansas City. You haven't known terror until you've walked into Arrowhead Stadium wearing a Broncos jersey. It was November 17, 1991, and John Elway did what John Elway always did. He led the Broncos from behind to beat the Chiefs 24 - 20. All my friends in Cleveland completely understand what that's like.

I don't want to be one of those guys who always compares the current team to the glory days. But dang, the Broncos during Elway's era were just too awesome. Even when we were getting creamed in the Super Bowl playing the Giants, Elway was fun to watch.

Who knows? Maybe Manning will get it together this year and make this season one to remember. Maybe so. But, even if the Broncos hoist the Lombardi Trophy next February, it won't be better than when Elway did it. John Elway was the man.
