Estes Park’s New Roller Coaster Has Already Set a Record
When visiting Estes Park, tourists (and locals alike) can take a quick ride on a small but record-holding Colorado roller coaster. That is until another one comes along to beat it.
How Long Has Fun City Been in Estes Park, Colorado?
According to EstesValleyVoice.com, Fun City opened in 1969; personally, I think I've only been there one time, and that's a shame. Fun City, despite whatever detractors it might have, brings a lot of joy to customers and money to the town.
As of the summer of 2025, along with all the other fun things that Fun City has (Go-Carts, the Giant Rainbow Slide, Bungee Trampoline, etc.) folks can now take a ride on a fun, little roller coaster: "The Gold Rush."

Estes Park Roller Coaster Breaks Record on Opening Day
According to FOX31, Gold Rush opened in June of 2025; as soon as it started operation it became North America's Highest Roller Coaster, sitting at an elevation of 7,550 feat above sea level. People visiting Colorado and riding Gold Rush can go back and brag to their friends, "I rode the highest coaster in all of America!"

It's funny to think about the cute roller coaster having such "street-cred," when at it's highest point (19 feet) it's still about 25 feet lower than the start of the Giant Rainbow Slide.
There Is a Technicality When It Comes to the Record
Before we get carried away with all the bragging about Gold Rush, according to Fox31, the coaster is technically a "family ride" and not a full-fledged roller coaster. When you take that into consideration, the Cliffhanger in Glenwood Springs, at 7,150 feet, is North America's highest coaster.
