Hidden Gem In Southern Utah: Discover The Candy Cliffs
Overlooked Wonder Near St. George
One of the coolest places to hike to in Southern Utah is not well known even by those who have lived a long time in the area. Maybe because there are so many amazing places to visit in the red rocks that this one gets left off the list.
It is always fun to explore places where you live. It is also fun to show it off to people who come to visit. Next time people come to town, skip the well-known places like Zion National Park or Snow Canyon and take them to the Candy Cliffs.
Relatively Easy Hike
This is not far from Leeds about 20 minutes from St. George. It is called Yant Flats and features marbled sandstone with a wave patterns. It kind of looks like a turtle shell in parts. It is stunning, especially in the light of early morning.
The trail is 3.4 miles long and will take you an hour and a half to go out and back. It starts out in sand and then moves into the sandstone. It is considered moderately challenging and many people camp, hike, or ride in on horses.
Rock With Wave Patterns
It soon becomes apparent why it is known as the candy cliffs. It sits on the slopes of Pine Valley Mountain on a sandstone layer of the Colorado Plateau. The red and white striped colors look a little like pulled taffy.
