These Weapons are Illegal to Possess in Colorado
The Second Amendment of the United States Constitution guarantees the right for American citizens to bear arms, but the interpretation of the amendment has been debated time and time again.
There are certain rules that law-abiding citizens must adhere to in order to legally own certain weapons and in the state of Colorado, some weapons are considered to be dangerous enough that they're totally illegal without proper licenses.
Here are ten weapons that are considered illegal in Colorado and just how illegal they actually are:
Illegal Colorado Weapons: Fully Automatic Guns
Fully automatic weapons are defined as being able to fire more than one round with a single trigger pull. Machine guns fire rifle ammo while submachine guns fire handgun ammo, and both of these types of machine guns are illegal in Colorado without an NFA tax stamp from the ATF.
Illegal Colorado Weapons: Short-Barrel Guns
It's also illegal to own firearms with barrels that are too short. For example, it's illegal to own a shotgun with a barrel less than 18 inches long as well as a rifle with a barrel less than 16 inches long and the total length of either type of weapon must be at least 26 inches. However, these can be legally obtained in Colorado with an NFA tax stamp from the ATF.
Illegal Colorado Weapons: Other Ballistic Weapons
In addition to the above types of firearms, it's also illegal to own a gas gun which fires using compressed air, as well as ballistic knives such as those shot from a crossbow.
Other Illegal Colorado Weapons Allowed with NFA Tax Stamp
Some other weapons that are illegal in Colorado with the exception of possession of an NFA tax stamp from the ATF include firearm suppressors or silencers, as well as bombs, explosives, or other incendiary devices.
Other Illegal Colorado Weapons Not Allowed with NFA Tax Stamp
Finally, weapons like billy clubs, sand clubs, brass knuckles, and other metallic knuckles are also illegal in the state of Colorado and are not eligible to be owned with an NFA tax stamp. However, possessing blackjacks (billy clubs, etc.) and metallic knuckles in Colorado is a misdemeanor, while owning any of the aforementioned weapons that are eligible for an NFA tax stamp without one is typically a felony.
