I-70 East Closed Due to Heavy Snow and Avalanche Mitigation
I-70 eastbound between Vail and Silverthorne is closed this morning as heavy snow and avalanche work will keep the highway moving at a slow pace through most of the morning.
CDOT is saying this can be expected through the morning and into the early afternoon.
Highway 6 over Loveland Pass is also closed as one of the heaviest storms of this winter continues to pound the high country.
There is a winter storm warning that will be in effect through Friday as up to 18 inches of new snow is expected to fall before the storm finally loses steam. Making matters even worse are the high winds expected, with gusts up to 65 mph forecasted.
Most of the resort areas are reporting double-digit snowfall overnight with Keystone reporting 19 inches of new snow.
The Colorado Avalanche Information Center is warning those looking to go into the backcountry that there are avalanche warnings through Saturday morning.
If you would like to check the mountain cams, you can do that here, but if you don't have to travel I-70 today in the high country, you should put the trip off.
