The travel website Cheapism recently put out a survey where they picked their top 'bucket list' restaurants in each state across the country. To compile their list, the travel pros looked at iconic establishments from state-to-state, and particularly the places people go for a splurge-worthy night or really special occasion.

When it comes to fine dining in Colorado, we have some sizzling steakhouses and resorts known for their gourmet grub, but for an all-around eating experience that's both elegant and renown, Cheapism chose the Penrose Room as the Centennial state's 'bucket list' restaurant.

Located in Colorado Springs inside the popular Broadmoor Hotel, the Penrose Room is an AAA Five Diamond and Forbes five-star restaurant – the only in-state with this distinction. From start to finish, diners at the Penrose Room are in for a treat. Big windows give way to gorgeous mountain views, as diners sit high above the resort in one of the hotel's towers. The indoor ambiance is classically elegant, with top-notch service from the waitstaff and sommeliers. With live music from the Penrose Trio, dancing away the evening usually follows after a delicious dessert. Besides phenomenal service and views for days, the Penrose serves up meals that are almost too pretty to eat. Inspired by seasonal foods and flavors, the restaurant's European cuisine menu is always changing.

The Penrose Room is definitely not for someone on a budget, but if you do find yourself in the Springs and want a fancy dining experience that's above and beyond, this is the place to go. A review from Yelp says this about the Penrose Room "This is one of the finest restaurants I've ever eaten at. There we 6 of us that celebrated my wife's birthday. Service, atmosphere, quality, and selection of food was all outstanding. We ate venison, scallops, lobster, and wagyu beef. Everything was prepared to perfection. If your willing to spend a little extra, I'm sure you will have a meal you will not forget."
