You guys make the trip to Denver from time to time, right?  Of course, you do. There's concerts, shows, ball games, family and friends to see. Anyone that's made the trip knows Glenwood Canyon is one of the most scenic stretches of I-70. I'm suggesting instead of stopping at a fast food joint, or a Quickie-Mart, or someplace like that the next time through, tries Grizzly Creek.

I understand you're in a hurry most times you're headed east. Again, there's a reason you loaded up and are heading that way in the first place. And if not on the way there, make time on the way back. Pack a lunch of healthy snacks, or not. It's not the food that's the reason for the stop. It's the trail.

The Grizzly Creek Hiking Trail  in Glenwood Canyon is next door to the Rest Area at exit 121. Don't have lunch at one of the tables there. There are too many travelers, dogs, and traffic to really enjoy your sandwich. Not far up the trail is a much better spot.

The creek runs along the trail for most of the way. It isn't long until the flowing water overpowers the sound of the I-70 traffic and the water is the only sound you hear.

The scenery is pretty cool too. The trail is just over a 6-mile roundtrip. However, there's no need to do the whole thing. Trust me, the exercise and fresh air will do wonders and you'll feel refreshed and ready to hop back behind the wheel.

So the next time you make the drive, make some time for Grizzly Creek. Perhaps you've done this before. That's cool, the location along the way makes for a nice break from the driving, so try it again. The changing seasons make for new things to enjoy every stop. Besides, there are Quickie-Mart's and fast food joints in town.  Grizzly Creek rocks!
