Three members of the Grand Junction Fire Department are helping to fight a wildfire fire between Meeker and Craig.

The Streeter fire was reported Tuesday morning and has now burned nearly 2,000 acres. A three-person crew from the Grand Junction Fire Department was deployed to the scene of the fire on Highway 13 near the Colowyo Coal Mine.

Colorado 13 was temporarily closed but reopened Wednesday morning. Officials say the status of that highway could change depending on fire and weather behavior.

The fire has burned several powerline poles and has threatened structures at nearby ranches. High winds and red flag conditions have hampered containment efforts, according to the Moffat County Sheriff's Office. The fire has been upgraded to a Type III incident Command Fire.
