Grand Junction recently implemented a new emergency alert system, and all you need to do is sign up. Find out how.

An important new emergency notification system is available in Grand Junction that makes it easier for residents to receive alerts via text, phone, voicemail or e-mail. Unfortunately, an overwhelming number of residents who could benefit from this service either aren't aware it exists or haven't taken the time to sign up.

The new system called Everbridge, allows the Grand Junction Police department to notify residents using the app of everything from emergencies to weather alerts.

In a recent interview, Grand Junction Police Chief John Camper explains why this system is critical in the event of an emergency.

Nowadays with so many people having cell phones and in some cases, not even having a landline anymore in their homes. We really don't have a way of notifying people unless they sign up for a system like this."

According to the Police Department, only 10% or roughly 7,000 people have signed up for the service, so far. That number leaves a significant gap in the number of subscribers needed to make the service work in the best way possible for the community

Signing up for the service is easy and takes most people less than 10 minutes. Information and sign up for the Grand Junction Emergency and Community Alert Notification System.
