Governor Polis is putting nearly $1 billion of money received from the Coronavirus Relief Fund, frequently referred to as the CARES Act, toward Colorado education.

A reported by the Coloradoan, $547 million will go to the Colorado Department of Education and distributed between K-12 schools with $450 million going to higher education.

“PSD (Poudre School District) appreciates this funding,” district spokeswoman Madeline Noblett said in an email Tuesday.

Like other Colorado districts, PSD has recently racked up costly expenditures in order to transition to remote education, along with personal protective equipment for staff and students.

How much each school will receive is still being determined by the state Legislature's Joint Budget Committee, according to the Coloradoan.

Joyce McConnel, president of Colorado State University's Fort Collins campus stated that CSU plans to resume in-person learning on August 24.

"On the expense side, we may need to spend more on sanitizing and so forth, and then the amount of activity we’re allowed to accommodate, that can have a budget impact, too," stated Henry Sobanet, the chief financial officer for the CSU System.
