Going Camping? Better Reserve Your Spot Now!
Colorado Parks & Wildlife camping reservations are on the rise for 2019!
On the heels of a record ski season, CP&W says camping reservations are up this summer. The 2018-19 ski season was historic. It's still underway at a few higher-elevation resorts and broke the record for the number of visitors with an estimated 13.8 million hitting the Colorado slopes! "The 2018-19 season was one for the history books," so says Colorado Ski Country USA President Melanie Mills. "Not only did the industry set a new statewide record for skier visits, but there were substantial investments in capital improvements across our member resorts and snowfall was plentiful across the entire state."
Of course, the record snowpack was the main reason for the record ski numbers. Now, Colorado Parks & Wildlife is reporting an increased number of state park camping reservations for 2019. There are nearly 8,000 more overnight camping reservations for this summer as compared to this same time last year. At the end of May, CP&W have already taken 62,679 camping and 181,939 overnight camping permit reservations. If you're thinking about camping over the 4th of July weekend, better take action now.
Its believed that a couple of things are diving the increased numbers. One is more people going online to make their reservations, the other...a campfire. Last years fire restrictions put a damper on, no pun intended, the camping experience. "It's tough to say if that's attributable to campfires or last year's drought conditions. We suspect a majority of our parks switching to the 'reservation-only' system during that time has had a beneficial effect on our camping rates," that's according CP&W spokesperson Travis Duncan.
20 of Colorado's state parks are now on the online reservation system. For more information and to make your CP&W campsite reservation, click HERE.
