The fresh produce season is upon us, and the Fruita Farmers Market is making preparations to get this year's marketplace underway.

The Fruita Farmers Market is scheduled to be open every Saturday from 8:30am until noon from June 20 until September 19. As one might expect, this year's market is going to look a little different.

For starters, the location of the market is changing. According to the Fruita Chamber of Commerce, to "promote social distancing and help with future growth" the market is moving to Reed Park at 250 S. Elm Street.

For the first time ever, online ordering and curbside pickup will be available to produce lovers. Visitors are encouraged to go to Reed Park and stroll around the market, but the online option is available for those who may not be comfortable being in a crowd. Social distancing will definitely be encouraged and practiced.

Some other thing to keep in mind when you visit the farmers market in Fruita:

* No dogs allowed
* No sampling is allowed
* No bikes, skateboards or "other similar items" allowed in the market area. They should be parked outside the event grounds.

The Fruita Farmers Market is looking for vendors selling regional/seasonal produce, farm-raised regional meats, quality hand-made regional crafts, regional artists, regional baked goods, preserves, and spices,  unique product lines, and ready to eat food. Vendor applications are available online.

The guidelines set down by Mesa County Public Health are being adhered to at the Fruita Farmers Market and scheduled dates are subject to change. However, at this point, you can plan on getting some of that delicious locally grown produce June 20 in Fruita.
