Devil’s Causeway Should Be On Your Colorado Hiking Bucket List
When you are looking for a thrilling new western Colorado hike, you can't go wrong with Devil's Causeway.
If you enjoy hiking through meadows, walking past mountain lakes, seeing magnificent views, and experiencing a heart-stopping thrill at the top, this is a Colorado hike to put on your must-do bucket list.
The causeway is a rock bridge at the top of the hike that narrows to 3-feet in places. Some hikers choose to forego the crossing because the tight 50-foot trek across the rocks with steep drop-offs on either side is a bit unnerving and intimidating. However, I have to say it's one of the coolest hikes I've done in Colorado. Crossing the causeway - and living to tell about it - was quite a thrill. You can get a taste of what it's like by watching my video at the bottom of this post.
Devil's Causeway is located in the Flat Tops Wilderness Area west of Meeker, and about 16 miles west of Yampa. From Grand Junction it's about a 3 1/2 hour drive, taking I-70 to the Steamboat Springs/Walcott exit and then heading north.
